Heading out to the desert
We're leaving this morning for the desert, where we'll likely not have internet access. It's entirely possible we won't have access for the rest of the trip. Note to the grandmothers: this means that the lack of new entries on this blog does not indicate that we have been kidnapped. We can assure you that we have never felt threatened or in any danger since arriving in Morocco, even when we walked back from the main square (Djamaa El-Fna) late last night along narrow, unlit alleys populated only by darkly hooded young men. Truly: this is not a violent country. It's a beautiful and magical place, even when the external signs remind us of pre-Giuliani Times Square. The signs just don't mean the same thing.
Here are a few pictures of the Djamaa el-Fna at night.
